Jay-Z, Kanye West & other memorable entertainment team-ups

Anticipation for the new Jay-Z & Kanye West collaboration Watch the Throne continues to build like crazy in the world of the Internets. With two of the biggest names in the entertainment sphere today joining forces, I can only think of other great moments in U.S Entertainment when larger than life personalities joined forces.

Macho Man Randy Savage & Hulk Hogan

As a kid, this was bonkers! Two of the biggest names in wrestling history joining forces on Saturday Night Main Event??? The paring of an icon and the madman was something no one saw coming. This will forever thank my mom for extending my bedtime that night to see the formation of what would later be known as the Mega Powers . Even if short-lived, this will forever be a moment that will define the highs of pro-wrestling.

Shaquille O’ Neal  & Penny/Kobe/Wade/Lebron

Shaquille O' Neal is one of the greatest players/personalities that the National Basketball Association was blessed with. The other guys mentioned above... are great basketball players (lacking on the personality part). Yet, when paired with the Big Aristotle, results were good for a season or two(minus the Kobe Byrant three ring era), shortly followed by some type of fall out between the duo as Shaq became more interested in cheeseburgers and being a kid, than keeping in shape. Still the paring of Shaq, and the best wing players on the planet always garnered quite a bit of attention from fans and outsiders(band-wagoners) a like, and  the NBA sreally owes a lot to him for keeping basketball interesting(and business flowing) over the last 15 years.

Randy Johnson & Curt Schilling

Two of the MLB’s greatest pitchers combed forces for a few seasons, one of those seasons resulted in a incredible championship run. In 2001 the Arizona Diamondbacks pulled off one of the greatest upsets  in the history of sports behind the arms of Curt and The Big Unit. One of the best pitching performances by a duo I have ever seen in a playoff series.

Freddy Kruger & Jason Vorhees

After Jason was pulled down to hell by the hand of Freddy Kruger in 1993’s Jason Goes to Hell:The Final Friday,  millions of fanboys were clamoring  for a film showcasing the pair joining forces. Ten years later, after numerous studio hold-ups,  Freddy vs Jason made it’s public debut. Aside from the great fight scene by the two at the during the last 15 minutes of the film,  and the 82 million dollar box office gross, there was little else positive to be said about this team-up.  Moving on...

Keith Olbermann & Dan Patrick

This was the peak of ESPN’s Sportscenter. Dan Patrick's dead-pan humor with the cynicism of Olbermann was the perfect combination of lead anchors. ESPN hasn’t been able to capture that chemistry since. If it wasn’t for these two I don’t think the we would have a Daily Show, Colbert Report, or other mock-journalism type shows would be on the air. The whole subtle humor type personalities which flood the air today owe a lot the pair.

“Sir”Charles Barkley & Kenny “The Jet” Smith

Most people watch basketball on TNT because of these two. I don’t know how many times someone has told me something in line with how much they love the two and only watch the NBA because of the two. Kenny’s Gone Fishing  playoff segment is cult classic, and Charles...well what can you say about Barkely? The man is hilarious. His bold statements and predictions and no holds bar opinions work well with the group. These two are the ancors of the post-game/ after-game analysis for the network, you subtract these two and subtract most of the networks audience.

Micheal Jackson & Paul Mccartney/Eddie Murphey/Janet Jackson

On paper you have two of the biggest pop stars at the time teaming up for a single that the world waits to hear, how could this ever go wrong. Much like Hov and Ye's H.A.M, the initial offering to the public of The Girl is Mine was met with critical backlash, and probably is one of the more forgot about songs from Thriller. Say, Say, Say on the other hand is still quite the jam now days. The two’s friendship deteriorated later on  as MJ outbid Sir Paul for the rights to The Beatles  catalog.

When Jackson met up with Murphy for a 3-D world premiere video between the pair was kind of unexpected. I went to 7/Eleven that day to get my glasses none the less because it still was Micheal Jackson. But in the end this is nothing but another big collabo gone wrong. Unlike Jakson’s Remember The Time  which relied on Murphy’s acting and known comedic presence, the song featured MJ(already a bad sign) and Eddie took the reigned as the lead artist. The video was super lame, reminded me of Robin William’s TOYS movie  promo poster(that movie was lame as well).

Scream is still one of the illest videos ever made. The song as well is one of the the best of both artist catalog, and it gave us a much desired pairing of two of the most famous siblings in music/entertainment history. Janet was looking soooo fly in this video, and I loved the aggressive nature of her performance in this video. We also had  MJ was cussin on the song(s chorus(though edited in the video) “stop fuck’n with me” . To this day I haven’t seen a music collab that rivals this.
