Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at 9:00AM Many moons ago hip-hop artists that wanted to get street buzz needed to get on Mixtapes. Then when it became a street hit, it would then cross over to radio and mainstream.
For a while the internet helped distribute all these mixtapes from DJ Kay Slay, Funk Master Flex, Cutmaster C, etc, etc, etc. and a few artist have built their cred from it, such as 50 Cent and Kanye West.
It's 2009 and the case isn't anymore. Artist have moved away from approching these highly valued DJ's and now go straight to the rap fans. Websites and blogs hunger over for that "exclusive" song to be featured on their site and all a PR person has to do is mass cc all blogs. Acts like Kid Cudi and Pac Div didn't need a DJ Who Kidd to be screaming all over their music for them to get exposure.
As you can see, DJ Clue's pretty late on the Twitter Craze as this would have been funny about 2 years ago:

Are Mixtape DJ's still relevent anymore since anyone can sign up for a blogger.com account?
